Self-Competition: Unleashing Your Best Self
On February 27th, I made a decision to quit smoking cold turkey. It was a move I'd attempted before, but this time something clicked. What made the difference this time? Using streaks to motivate myself. Now, 52 days smoke-free, I was reflecting on why streaks are effective in breaking or making habits.
For me, it's all about the "You vs You" mentality that streaks embody. It's about being better than who you were yesterday. But the real trick is hitting that cliff, where you fear breaking the streak and reverting to your old self. For me, that cliff came at the two-week mark, but it varies for everyone.
Competing against yourself is powerful. It boosts motivation and increases the likelihood of success. When you're your own biggest competitor, you're more driven to succeed.
While the concept is simple, we often let small things affect our lives when we're competing with others, leading to unnecessary pressure. Life is short; enjoy it while striving to be the best version of yourself.
It’s ‘You vs You’.
